The “glass skin” trend started as early as 2013 in Korea, although we took a first glimpse of it this year through social media. Glass skin refers to a clean, hydrated, shiny and poreless skin –glass like skin. Even the New York Times posted an article titled: “Everyone is going crazy over glass skin!”
So here’s how to get it!
There are two ways to achieve the desirable result. The first one combines skincare with make-up, whereas the latter is limited to the use of skin care products.
The secret lies at layering.
Korean people follow ten to fourteen moisturizing steps in order to achieve the ultimate look. It is of great importance, though, to do everything in correct order, that is applying the most lightweight ingredients first, continuing to the thickest.
Skin care routine
1st step: Double cleanse
Double cleanse is an essential step in every skincare routine, since it creates the perfect foundation for the steps to come. Clean skin means healthy skin. The first product should be a cleansing oil which removes oily impurities, such as sunscreen, make-up residue and sebum, whereas the second one should be a cleansing gel which removes dust and pollutants.
Example: Lipid Balance Cleansing Oil & Surface Radiance Cleanse, both by Medik8®.
2nd step: Tone
Choose a toning lotion which not only restores the skin’s pH, but also moisturizes and refreshes it. You can tell if it does both, when the product contains ingredients like Aloe Vera, Floral Water or Chamomile.
Example: Daily Refresh Balancing Toner by Medik8®
3rd step: Serum
We go on with one of the most miraculous and active skincare products. What makes serums unique is that they have high concentration of active ingredients, while keeping their molecular weight low. This hands them the ability to penetrate the skin deeply and at an extremely fast pace. Think of it: it’s exactly what we need from a product; reach to our skin’s deeper layers and be highly active without causing irritation.
Example: Clarity Peptides (10% niacinamide) by Medik8®.
4th step: Moisturize
Moisturizer, the most important phase of every routine. It’s the step that promotes luminous, healthy and moisturized faces and you want to “lock” it in. When choosing a product, you’ll want to reach for one that is lightweight yet packs maximum moisture. Pick ones with nourishing ingredients, hydrators, like Vitamin B5 or B3 and antioxidants, like Vitamin C.
Example: Daily Radiance Vitamin C by Medik8®.
5th step: Eye cream
Can you imagine a “glass skin” with dry sections and circles under the eyes? Of course not. So never skip the eye cream! It delivers the moisture needed by the delicate eye area, corrects dark circles and swelling, whilst at the same time tightening
Examples: Dark Circles Tinted Primer & Eyelift, both by Medik8®.
6th step : Sunscreen
As a last step, of course we do not forget the daily use of sunscreen.
The sunscreen protects us from the harmful UVA and UVB rays, thus promoting a healthy and youthful skin from the inside.
Example: Physical sunscreen by Medik8® or Gel/ Gel cream color by Heliocare®.
May all of this seem many and time-consuming. The truth is that we need to spend a few minutes more on our daily care routine to get a “glass skin”.
What is certain is that then your skin will look even smoother, softer and radiant.
Try it….!
